On Tuesday Peter Hain admitted to a set of donations which should have been declared previously. They arise from a fundraising dinner in April organised by Huw Roberts who became Royal Mail’s director of Welsh affairs in June.
Roberts said he approached people he thought might be prepared to donate to Hain’s deputy Labour leadership campaign. Hain, the Work and Pensions and Welsh Secretary spent around £40,000 on his failed bid to become deputy Labour Party leader.
He has already admitted failing to register a £5,000 donation from Labour’s chief fundraiser Jon Mendelsohn.
