Nick Broomfield's The Battle for Haditha - special showing

Issue No. 2083

Respect is hosting this special showing in London of director Nick Broomfield’s as yet unreleased film detailing events on 19 November 2005 that led to the massacre of 24 Iraqis by US troops in the city of Haditha.

The film showing will be followed by a discussion featuring Broomfield and the Iraqi writer and anti-war activist Sami Ramadani.

The Battle for Haditha was shot last year in Jordan in a semi-documentary style. The script was improvised by mostly amateur actors, including ex-Marines.

Broomfield made his name as a documentary producer but has recently turned his hand to reconstructions. Last year he released Ghosts, a dramatisation of the Morecambe Bay tragedy that took the lives of 23 Chinese cockle pickers.
