Fighting for abortion rights

Abortion rights campaigners are preparing to resist any attempts to restrict a woman’s right to choose. Amendments to the government’s Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill threaten to restrict abortion rights for women in Britain.

One amendment seeks to cut the time limit for abortions in cases of severe foetal impairment. There is talk of a private members’ bill being put to cut the time limit for all abortions to 20 weeks or less.

Abortion Rights, the national pro-choice campaign, will kick off the campaign to prevent any restrictions on access to abortion with a public meeting in London this Wednesday.

National lobbies of parliament are planned over the next few months to coincide with MPs voting on the bill.

Around the country, activists need to organise local actions to build a broad and united campaign to defend abortion rights.
