Union Rights - Unofficial Action

Issue No. 1734

Willerby Holiday Homes was shut down on Thursday and Friday of last week after 300 UCATT union members staged an unofficial strike in support of their demands for full time on-site shop stewards.

The caravan industry in Yorkshire has seen some bitter disputes in the past few years. Bosses at Willerby thought they could treat their workforce like all the others-with contempt.

This time it backfired, and the UCATT members organised a walk off the job on Thursday and a mass picket outside the gates on Friday.

A ballot is now being organised for official strike action. One of the joiners said that the workforce had had enough after their leading steward resigned because of the impossible workload he had to carry.

The workforce are prepared for an all-out strike if that's what it takes.
