NUJ members at Reuters have called for the union to begin an industrial action ballot following the company’s refusal to hold meaningful negotiations over changes to journalists’ job roles, which it imposed on Monday of this week.
Reuters management is trying to force a new career structure on journalists without proper consultation.
A packed meeting of NUJ members last week voted unanimously to call on the union to begin the process for organising an industrial action ballot.
Myra MacDonald, the NUJ’s mother of chapel (workplace union branch) at Reuters, said, “This is a shabby way for Reuters to treat its journalists.
“Our members are furious that the company’s management seems to think it can ride roughshod over its agreements with the union.”
