Just two days before the anniversary of her daughter’s death in Styal Prison in 2003 Pauline Campbell was at HMP Holloway to demonstrate over yet another self-inflicted death inside its walls.

Twenty four year old Jamie Pearce died in December, bringing the number of such incidents in 2007 to eight.

Also in attendance were two former prisoners and Gwen Calvert, whose son Paul died in HMP Pentonville.

There was a reception committee of no less than eight police officers waiting for Pauline and her supporters. A high profile attempt at prosecuting Pauline for her peaceful direct action failed last year.
