Ballot papers are out now for the UCU lecturers’ union national executive committee elections. About half the executive seats are up for re-election. Activists need to fight hard over the next three weeks to make sure that the turnout is as high as possible and the vote for UCU Left candidates is maximised.
A lot is at stake in these elections. Last year UCU Left candidates did well and have accomplished a lot over the past eight months, focusing the union’s fights over pay, cuts and conditions and as a result recruiting and building branches.
We have major battles coming up over national bargaining, pay in both further and higher education sectors, the fight against marketisation and the huge increases in bullying and workloads that we face.
There are UCU Left leaflets and election materials available (see the UCU Left website » www.uculeft.org.uk).
We urge UCU members to get these around workplaces, leaflet staff rooms and branch meetings, and encourage colleagues to support UCU Left candidates.
