Members of the University and College Union (UCU) in Higher Education (HE) are being balloted about a new negotiating agreement with the employers.
The offer, if accepted, would tie the hands of the union through a “Disputes Resolution Procedure” (DRP) which can be invoked by the employers, preventing industrial action.
Some on the left argue for acceptance of the deal to maintain national bargaining. But accepting would seriously undermine our ability to defend national bargaining in the future.
It is vital that activists campaign hard for a No vote. This means postering workplaces, calling UCU meetings on the issue and making sure branch committees are campaigning.
Ballot papers are out now and the ballot has been extended to 25 February.
