Is there a blacklist on the oil rigs?

Issue No. 2087

The OILC and RMT unions are fighting against oil workers being “NRBd” (not required back) on platforms in the North Sea.

The unions say there were a variety of reasons for someone receiving an NRB, including complaining about safety, being suspected of giving a tip-off to the Health and Safety Executive or being too trade union orientated.

The unions argue, “The worker has virtually no means to challenge the actions of the operator. The contracts always include a clause allowing the operator to deny anyone access to their installations

for any reason.”

Workers labelled as NRB would are only not required back by that particular employer, but are unlikely to be wanted by any other operator.
