Voting due to start in crucial NUT ballot

by Nick Grant
Issue No. 2088

Ballot papers will go out from 20 February to members of the National Union of Teachers (NUT) in eight of its 27 districts where places are being contested for the new national executive committee.

Unusually, these elections overlap with a ballot starting 28 February of all members for a national one-day strike. Voting for the elections will take place over three weeks.

The new NUT national executive will take effect from the end of the union’s annual conference on 25 March.

Its first decision in early April will be to receive the result of the pay ballot and, hopefully, approve the planned action for 24 April.

Socialist Worker is backing the following candidates who all have a record of arguing for strike action to fight for decent pay.

Where there is more than one place, we are asking supporters to vote for all candidates in the stated order.
