Victimised for backing the union

CHARLIE McDONALD is a leading PCS branch officer and activist in east London who faces a victimisation campaign from management aimed at killing off the union in the area.

Issue No. 1913

‘I HAVE been in the union for 15 years.

A month ago I received a six-month warning for distributing information about the strike.

Now I face much more serious charges and a hearing in September that could lead to me being sacked.

I and the union utterly refute the allegation that I went into an office on a strike day to intimidate people or “pushed a manager and swore at him”.

Anyone who knows me knows that is not true, and the union nationally sees this as a clear case of victimisation.

We are going to ballot for indefinite strike action at this office, Stratford, over the attack, and ballot the rest of Newham, Tower Hamlets and Hackney for selective action.

Support at union meetings for a ballot is running at over ten to one.’

PCS members and other trade unionists should rush messages of support and petitions in defence of Charlie McDonald c/o Union Office, Stratford Social Security Office, Jubilee House, Farthingdale Walk, London E15 1AN.
