The Conformist

Issue No. 2090

This classic 1970 film about the psychology of fascism is being re-released.

It is set in Italy during the rule of Benito Mussolini’s fascists.

Marcello Clerici, an upper class intellectual who spends his life conforming to others, joins the Fascist Party.

He is then hired by the fascists to go to Paris to kill a dissident who is his former philosophy teacher.

The Conformist inspired a whole generation of filmmakers with its complex structure, political commitment and photography.
