Talks in London Underground dispute

Issue No. 2091

Talks were taking place as Socialist Worker went to press between the RMT and TSSA rail workers’ unions, and London Underground managers over issues arising from the current dispute on the tube.

London Underground is pushing through cost-cutting plans across the tube.

It wants to close ticket offices, introduce agency staff and security guards into the workforce, and attack safety standards.

In order to ram through the cuts, both management and Ken Livingstone want to weaken the RMT – particularly in the run-up to the 2012 Olympics.

But the unions are standing firm. The TSSA’s 2,500 members are balloting for action against the attacks while the RMT is set to announce its plans for action if it does not receive guarantees through talks.
