Unison activists appeal against ban on standing in elections

Issue No. 2092

Leading Unison union activists Karen Reissmann and Yunus Bakhsh have appealed against the decision to bar them from re-standing for the union’s health executive.

Election authorities ruled Karen ineligible to stand because she was not working in the health sector during the nomination period.

Karen was on picket lines at the time with fellow workers, following her sacking as a psychiatric nurse.

Yunus Bakhsh has been told that he cannot stand because he is currently “suspended from office”. Yunus’s suspension is being vigorously contested, and he has not been found guilty of any charges.
