Former Guantanamo detainee to speak at World Against War march

Issue No. 2092

Omar Deghayes, the British former Guantanamo Bay detainee who was released at the end of last year, will be speaking at the Stop the War demonstration in London this Saturday.

This follows last week’s news that Spanish authorities had dropped extradition proceedings against Omar and his fellow British detainee Jamil el-Banna.

Omar and Jamil were released back to Britain last December – but were immediately placed back in legal limbo with the extradition requests against them.

Both men were tortured during their five year detention in the prison camp.

Jackie Chase from the Save Omar campaign told Socialist Worker, “Now we must demand they shut down Guantanamo Bay, Belmarsh and the whole network of secret CIA torture camps around the world.”
