Anti-war campaigners are meeting at Aldermaston in Berkshire on 24 March to encircle the nuclear research centre and call for it to be shut.
The protest commemorates the first Aldermaston March that took place 50 years ago. People marched for four days from London to protest against nuclear weapons. The Aldermaston marches were central to the early development of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND).
This year’s protest will highlight the hundreds of millions of pounds being poured into the establishment of a new generation of nuclear warheads to replace Trident.
Research for this will take place at Aldermaston. The development threatens to trigger a new nuclear arms race that will further destabilise an already war-torn world.
