Free Love Music Hate Racism carnival will rally anti-fascists

Issue No. 2092

A host of bands, MCs and musicians are set to deliver a blow against the fascist British National Party (BNP) next month at the Love Music Hate Racism free carnival in Victoria Park, east London, on Saturday 27 April.

Acts playing at the carnival include Babyshambles, Roll Deep, Jerry Dammers and The Paddingtons – with more big names to be announced soon. It includes two outdoor stages and a dance marquee.

As well as fighting the BNP today, the carnival marks 30 years since the legendary Anti Nazi League/Rock Against Racism carnival that took place at the same venue in 1978. That event marked a crucial point in the battle against the BNP’s predecessors in the National Front.

The decision to make the carnival free is designed to ensure the anti-fascist message gets the widest possible backing in the run up to the London assembly elections.

But it means Love Music Hate Racism urgently needs to raise funds from the anti-racist and trade union movement.
