Set in Germany during the Second World War and based on a true story, the film looks at Operation Bernhard – a Nazi plan to destabilise the Allies by flooding their economies with forged currency.
Jewish prisoner Salomon Sorowitsch escapes death in the camps by helping forge banknotes.
He is caught between a desire to sabotage the Nazi operation, concern for his fellow prisoners and the desire to stay alive.
The film does a brilliant job of showing the painful contradictions Sorowitsch faced, brought about by the horrific situation he was forced into.
