Councillor out on strike over pay

Issue No. 2093

Oliur Rahman, a Respect councillor in Tower Hamlets, east London, and a Left List candidate, was on strike this week with fellow civil service workers in the PCS union.

“The Tories, New Labour and the Liberal Democrats are united in defence of the free market which is raining down attacks on working people,” he said.

“Our Left List candidates are the only ones willing to say that trade unions should be stronger in order to protect workers. We are the only people who will call for more public ownership to protect jobs and services.”

PCS members in the Department for Work and Pensions struck on Monday and Tuesday of this week.
