Respect’s Left List candidates will be taking on the three mainstream parties across England and Wales this May.
Outside London they will be standing in Manchester, Preston, Bolton, Sheffield, Leeds, Newcastle, Cambridge, Birmingham, Oxford, South Wales, Newcastle, Portsmouth, Dudley and Walsall.
“We want an active and imaginative campaign,” said John Rees, Respect’s national secretary.
“The looming recession means that insecurity is now stalking working people – and there will be renewed pressure on wages, jobs and public services.
“We need to be there for working people, supporting every protest a gainst schools turning into academies, against every post office being closed, against every NHS cut or job loss.
“We should encourage trade unions, trade councils, campaign groups, tenants associations, CND groups, local Stop the War groups and student unions to hold hustings where the candidates can be held to account.
“For the London elections we are leafleting high profile venues such as shopping centres, railway stations, workplaces and football matches.
“But we will also going back to our traditional supporters and using the canvassing sheets from previous election campaigns to get our voters out.”
