Unite executive election results

Issue No. 2095

Results of the Unite union executive elections were still coming in as Socialist Worker went to press.

While it was still too early to describe the full political make-up of the new executive, some crucial results were in.

Gill George and Frank Wood were successfully elected to the Amicus section of the executive from health. Gill, who was re-elected, told Socialist Worker, “This was a clear vote in defence of the NHS.

“Both myself and Frank put the emphasis in our election campaign on our stand against cuts and privatisation in the health service. We also argued that lay members should control their union.”

Other key left wing activists elected include Jane Stewart in the women’s seats and Bill Spiers in construction.

Raymond Morell and Andy Hanks missed out.
