Health workers are organising for the national lobby of parliament in support of Karen Reissmann, the sacked nurse and trade unionist.
The lobby, which has been organised by Karen’s Unison union nationally, is set to take place on Wednesday 7 May and will feature a major meeting hosted by Tony Lloyd MP.
Trade unionists will be asking their MPs to back Early Day Motion 443, which backs Karen and seeks to affirm the right to speak out for NHS trade unionists. Janet Maiden, the branch chair of UCL Hospital Unison, told Socialist Worker, “My branch has backed Karen all the way and we don’t intend to stop now.
“We are planning to bring a delegation to the lobby because being able to speak out against cuts and privatisation, which Karen was sacked for, is a fundamental right.”
Campaigners are also organising a meeting and free social at Unison’s health conference on Monday 14 April, 7.15pm at the Radisson Hotel, Peter Street, Manchester.
