Health workers and campaigners who support Karen Reissmann, the nurse and trade unionist sacked for speaking out against cuts and privatisation, are asking their supporters to join a national lobby of parliament.
The lobby, which has been organised by Karen's Unison union nationally, is set to take place on Wednesday 7 May and will feature a major meeting hosted by Tony Lloyd MP.
Trade unionists will be asking their MPs to sign Early Day Motion 443, which backs Karen.
Campaigners are also organising a meeting and free social at Unison's health conference on Monday 14 April, 7.15pm at the Radisson Hotel, Peter Street, Manchester. For more information go to » www.reinstate-karen.org
Stop blood lab closures
Campaigners in defence of the National Blood Service (NBS) are set to demonstrate against continuing plans to 'consolidate' the service by closing local laboratories and moving work to larger units by demonstrating outside the NBS headquarters in Watford.
A growing campaign against the closures, coupled with the threat of industrial action, has forced management to reconsider some of their closure plans, with jobs being saved at Sheffield and a whole lab saved in Newcastle.
Activists hope that victories scored against the plans of NBS management will inspire all other health workers whose jobs are threatened to fightback.
