In December 1979 the Russian army invaded Afghanistan.

Charlie Wilson, a Texas congressman, worked with a CIA operative to send arms to Afghanistan and defeat Russia.

The film shows the extent of the CIA’s funding for various “anti-communist” initiatives around the world.

But its conclusion about US involvement in Afghanistan is a controversial one.
