‘It becomes more of a struggle to get by for civil service workers each year as we face yet another below-inflation pay offer. My student loans debt is gathering interest as I’m not on a high enough wage to even start paying it back.
People who transfer into the department I work in from other departments can face different rates of pay to other workers. There is a big strength of feeling against this out there.
We struck on 29 February in the Department for Transport. Different agencies have taken action since then, which has had a serious impact on the running of the department.
Our PCS union organised a series of members’ meetings last summer to discuss our dispute over job cuts, pay and privatisation. These found that everyone was angry over pay, but it would be preferable to strike with other unions over the issue.
It’s a relief that this is finally happening. Thursday 24 April is going to be a great day.’
