Journalists in the NUJ union at Express Newspapers called off a strike over pay set for Friday of last week. The workers at the Daily Express, the Sunday Express, the Daily Star and the Daily Star Sunday in London and Preston had struck solidly on Friday 4 April.

A chapel [workplace union branch] meeting on Thursday of last week also decided to call off a one day strike set for Friday of this week.

The union has called three days of action for Tuesday to Thursday of next week.

Michelle Stanistreet, NUJ rep at the Express, told Socialist Worker, “The decision was taken at the chapel meeting to allow time for more talks with management. The chapel also took the decision to take more action if that doesn’t happen.”
