Leeds council refuse workers and cleaning staff are set to stage two 24-hour strikes over the next week, including on the day of the local elections, over single status pay cuts.
Workers are set to walk out on Wednesday of this week and again on 1 May, the day of the local council elections.
The union is in dispute over pay rates for men and women workers at the council and announced plans to pursue thousands of equal pay claims through the courts.
GMB official Neil Derrick said, “There are only two ways to deal with equal pay – the right way and the wrong way.
“The right way is to bring the pay for women workers up to match their male counterparts. The wrong way is to bring the pay of men down to meet the already low pay levels of women employees.”
Workers will start an indefinite work to rule on Thursday.
