Edinburgh demonstration in defence of Aamer Anwar

Issue No. 2099

Protesters gathered at the High Court in Edinburgh on Tuesday of this week in defence of civil rights lawyer Aamer Anwar.

Aamer was facing a contempt of court hearing over comments he made last year after his client Mohammad Atif Siddique was sentenced to eight years in prison for terrorism offences.

Aamer was accused of showing disrespect to the judge, the jury and the court.

A number of people have signed an open letter in support of Aamer, including novelist Iain Banks, Paddy Hill of the Birmingham Six, and Rose Gentle of Military Families Against the War.
