Trade union women in Scotland are at the forefront of campaigning for a woman’s right to choose.
The Scottish Trade Union Congress (STUC) women’s committee is reminding Scottish MPs that this is an issue of great importance to women in Scotland in the run-up to the crucial vote in Westminster.
Last year’s STUC women’s conference committed the STUC to supporting the Abortion Rights campaign and affiliated unions have been circulating campaigning material to their members.
STUC women’s committee members attended the lobby at Westminster on 7 May and trade unionists across Scotland will be phoning and writing to their own MPs this week.
Pro-choice activists will be gathering in Glasgow and Edinburgh on Monday of next week from 5.30pm for demonstrations in defence of the 24-week time limit.
Similar events will hopefully be taking place across Scotland.
Women’s rights and services must remain at the heart of our trade union activity.
Provision of safe abortion services on the NHS without judgement or delay is fundamental for working class women and we will be campaigning together with all those who share our commitment.
