MPs say abolish SATs tests

Issue No. 2101

Standard Assessment Tests (SATs) give school students a shallow education, deny them a rounded experience, put them off learning and lead to anxiety for over a million children who are forced to sit them every year.

Many have known this for some time. Now the government’s own Children, Schools and Families Select Committee has found the same thing.

There is widespread and growing opposition to SATs among teachers, students and parents, with some teaching unions discussing boycotts and strikes to oppose them.
