Second one day strike at Lady Margaret primary school

Issue No. 2107

Members of the NUT union in Lady Margaret primary school in Ealing, west London, held a second one-day strike on Wednesday of last week.

Further strikes took place on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. An initial one-day strike was held in May.

The teachers are striking over plans to restructure staffing at the school.

This would reduce the number of teaching and learning responsibility (TLR) posts, and introduce excessive assessment workload and unreasonable “performance” targets.

Owen Gallagher, the NUT rep at the school, told Socialist Worker, “We have received around 120 emails in support of our action since the dispute started.

“The parents are generally supportive, as are other workers in the school.

“Nothing has been resolved. We meet with the headteacher each week and get nowhere.

“The attitude that the head is taking towards our members is making people more determined to fight.”
