Delegates were meeting at the RMT rail workers conference in Nottingham this week to discuss many crucial issues for the union.
Delegate Gordon Martin, the secretary of the RMT’s Wishaw and Motherwell branch, told Socialist Worker, “Many progressive issues were discussed on the first day of the conference, including support for Defend Council Housing.
“The conference also demanded a referendum in Britain on the European Union (EU) Lisbon Treaty, which the Irish people voted to reject.
“The union is putting the emphasis on defending union rights in the EU.
“The conference is also to discuss emergency motions on the struggle of maintenance workers at Network Rail to win harmonisation of pay and conditions.
“These call for the union to engage the members and take action as and when required.”
