Unison conference: Fremantle

Issue No. 2107

Workers from the long running battle for workers’ rights at Fremantle, the private firm that runs care homes in Barnet, north London, received rapturous from the conference.

A Fremantle worker described how staff must now work up to 14 hours a day in order to take home just £250 a week.

Lango Gamanga said, “I open the door and the first thing I see is an old person I care for.

“They look at me and all they want is a smile. And I wonder, can I afford a smile or shall I keep worrying about my bills?”
