Airport firefighter strike suspended

Issue No. 2108

A second day of strikes by firefighters at remote airports across the north and west of Scotland has been suspended.

The strike, due on Friday of last week, was put on hold as further discussion was agreed between the Unite union and bosses at the Highlands and Islands Airport group.

The firefighters rejected a pay offer of 2 percent as “inadequate” and are demanding a bigger increase.

They struck last month for one day, closing nine airports in the region and affecting around 2,000 passengers.
