Success for Bethnal Green Esol campaign

by Roberto Foth
Issue No. 2108

Activists won a victory in their campaign to defend adult education courses at the Bethnal Green Centre (BGC) in east London last week.

Between 30 and 40 people lobbied a meeting of Tower Hamlets councillors on Wednesday of last week. A councillor confirmed that adult day classes in the ground floor of BGC would continue.

This meets one of our main demands and is a victory. But the fight is not over. The council has been forced to make concessions – but campaigners will need to monitor the situation over the coming months ahead.
