Barking College principal stands up to Nazi BNP’s bullying tactics

Issue No. 2108

Anti-fascist activists have spoken out against the “bully boy tactics” used by a senior British National Party (BNP) councillor against the principal of Barking College in east London.

Robert Bailey, leader of the Nazi BNP group on Barking & Dagenham council, paid a visit to college principal Ted Parker last month to warn him against hosting a Love Music Hate Racism event at the college.

Bailey warned of “problems” from BNP members if the event went ahead. “He seemed to be saying our students were in danger,” Ted Parker told a local newspaper. “As he left he said, ‘You have been warned’.”

Weyman Bennett, joint secretary of Unite Against Fascism (UAF), has called for the BNP councillor to be investigated. “It’s bully boy tactics,” he said.

UAF has also announced plans to protest against the Nazis’ “Red, White and Blue” event in Derbyshire next month.

The BNP will hold its annual hate-fest on Saturday 16 August.

The anti-fascist demonstration is supported by LMHR and East Midlands trade unions.
