Socialist Worker

Building an alternative in Scotland

Issue No. 1738

Carolyn Leckie is branch secretary for North Glasgow Hospitals UNISON union and the Scottish Socialist Party's health spokesperson. She is a single parent with two children and will be an SSP candidate in the general election:

'We have been stepping up our street activities, petitioning and postering for the election. We want to put across the message to the public that we are a serious socialist party that can become a focus to raise socialist ideas and to give working people confidence to fight back. I meet people all the time who are voting with their feet. They are people who have never previously questioned voting Labour, but are now considering breaking the link with voting Labour. Yet many are not sure which road to go down. They are crying out for an alternative and it is up to us to make sure we provide a credible, socialist alternative.'
