Head of trust which sacked Karen Reissmann resigns

Issue No. 2109

Sheila Foley, the chief executive of Manchester Mental Health and Social Care trust has resigned following a damning report into the trust's service provision.

Foley resigned in advance of the publication of an independent report which criticised the trust for poor working relationships and a lack of effective communication, according to a report in The Manchester Evening News.

Previously Foley had overseen the sacking of whistleblower and health union activist Karen Reissmann. Karen Reissmann had been sacked for complaining about cuts and privatisation, and saying what a damaging effect changes the trust had brought in were having on health provision. She is taking her case to an employment tribunal which is due to meet on 1 September.

Foley sent her resignation while holidaying in Dubai.
