Beggar & Co and The Grand Union Orchestra

Issue No. 2111

Beggar & Co laid the muscial foundation for neo-soul, house and broken beat in Britain.

The group includes the founder members of Light of the World – the first ensemble to establish a British jazz-funk identity.

Light of the World was formed from musicians and dancers in the 1970s. It grew to be one of the biggest jazz-funk acts this country has produced.

It has gone through many incarnations, finally fixing on the name Beggar & Co – a homage to the poor. If you want to listen to intelligent live music that tells of black working class life, don’t miss this chance to see the group live.
