Croydon teachers may ballot over academies

Issue No. 2112

The NUT union in Croydon, south London, may ballot for industrial action over plans to reorganise secondary education and introduce academies.

The council plans to close four community schools in the borough and open three academies. Several hundred parents, students and teachers lobbied a meeting of Croydon council on 14 July, which was supported by Croydon NUT and Unison unions.

If a ballot is successful NUT members would strike in the autumn.
