Members of the Unite union at Arrowe Park Hospital and Clatterbridge hospital in Merseyside struck on Friday of last week in response to attempts by managers to impose monthly pay. Support staff, including catering staff and cleaners, walked out.
One worker told Socialist Worker, “ We are striking because the management want us to accept monthly pay. Many people have been on weekly pay for 20 years and now they want to change it to save money by making money off our wages.
“But they don’t realise the effect these changes have. They are alright, with their £80,000 a year. If this strike doesn’t work we will do it again until they listen.”
