Anti academies protesters occupy Ark

Issue No. 2113

Anti-academies protesters occupied the London headquarters of Actual Return for Kids (Ark) on Thursday of last week, to protest against a proposed academy in Wembley, west London.

Ark is the proposed sponsor of the academy, which would be built on Wembley Park sports ground. Anti-academies protesters have held a long-running campaign against the academy, occupying the sports ground several times since March last year.

After a six-month occupation in 2007, protesters re-occupied the site on 30 June this year. They were evicted by bailiffs on 18 July after Brent council sought a court order to remove them from the site.

The proposed academy would cost £30 million in public money but would be privately-run and controlled.
