A company that profits from the privatisation of public services has been awarded over £5 million in a government grant to set up a base in Scotland.
The Scottish government awarded a £5.1 million grant to Serco to create 650 new jobs in Glasgow.
Serco is a key beneficiary of government policy to privatise key parts of the public sector.
The company and Glasgow City Council signed a 10-year outsourcing deal that hands control of large chunks of the council’s land, IT and property services to the firm.
Around 280 council staff have been transferred to the private sector as a result of the deal.
