Convention of the left

Issue No. 2118

Manchester will be a key rallying point against war and free market policies next weekend.

In addition to the Stop the War protest outside New Labour’s annual conference on Saturday 20 September, later that day the Convention of the Left will kick off.

Hundreds will gather for five days of discussion with each day focusing on a theme.

John McDonnell, Tony Benn, Lindsey German and Derek Wall will kick off proceedings by asking “What unites us?”

Discussions include how we can build a movement to stop climate change, opposing anti-union laws, and the occupation in Palestine.

The finale will be a “question time” session with a panel including George Galloway, Lindsey German, John McDonnell, Mark Serwotka and Hilary Wainwright.
