Sheffield journalists plan further action

Members of the NUJ journalists’ union at were set to take planning further industrial action on Wednesday of this week against management’s plans to make cuts.

Union members at the Sheffield Star and its sister titles held a four-hour mandatory NUJ chapel [workplace union branch] meeting on Wednesday of last week where journalists discussed planned changes at the papers. The meeting was attended by dozens of journalists and left the newsroom deserted throughout the morning.

The company wants to close offices and make an unspecified number of redundancies.
