Up to 300 people attended a lobby called by Nottingham Trent University UCU union branch on Monday of this week. They were demanding that management’s threat to derecognise the lecturers’ union is lifted.
There was a strong turnout from local members, who have voted for strike action on 21 October if the university does not back down. But there were also many banners and delegations from across the country, including London, Leicester, Leeds, Sheffield, Lincoln, Keele, and the Northern Region plus the local trades council.
The lobby was part of a series including one on Monday of last week.
Thousands of students saw the rally and took leaflets, and many signed petitions. Three hundred UCU branches have pledged their support.
