Postal workers

Issue No. 1914

ABOUT 100 York postal workers staged a lightning one-hour strike last week over unpaid bonuses.

Sorters and delivery workers based at the York West sorting office took unofficial industrial action between 6am and 7am, staging a sit-in in the canteen.

One worker said they were angry because Royal Mail maintains they have still not hit efficiency targets which would trigger bonus payments worth more than £25 a week.

SOME 200 drivers at Oldham Road post office in Manchester walked out unofficially after managers tried to implement part of the Major Change agreement two weeks ago.

Five workers were told their shifts would be changed within days, and that “there was nothing they could do about it”.

All drivers walked out immediately. Unfortunately, regional CWU union reps have allowed the management to implement the changes.
