MEMBERS OF the TGWU union at the Uniq company in Annan and Finnarts Bay have voted to strike against low pay by a huge majority.

Some 86 percent voted for strikes, and 92 percent voted in favour of action short of strike. The turnout was almost 70 percent. A series of one-day strikes is set to begin next Thursday.

The workers prepare foods for major retailers including Marks & Spencer. Many only earn the minimum wage.

Uniq is one of the largest private sector employers in south west Scotland, employing 1,000 people at the two sites.
