Following the recent successful London-wide rally hosted by the People Before Profit Charter, supporters in Hackney, east London, along with Turkish and Kurdish activists, called an organising meeting for the charter.
Some 29 people attended and the meeting decided to set up a charter organising committee.
“I wanted to make sure the Turkish and Kurdish community played an active role in the face of economic crisis,” says Ibrahim Avcil of the Refugee Workers Cultural Association. “Nine different Turkish and Kurdish organisations attended.”
A charter speaker also addressed a 90-strong public meeting for a visiting leader of the Turkish shipbuilders’ union.
