People Before Profit Charter gets strong backing

Issue No. 2125

People Before Profit Charter supporters in Southend held a successful “freeze-in” last Saturday highlighting the plight of pensioners and calling for a windfall tax on energy companies.

The Trades Council supported the event and it was joined by the town’s two prospective Labour parliamentary candidates. It was also attended by a Labour councillor and a CWU union rep. It attracted publicity in the local media.

Meanwhile supporters of the charter sent a message to last week’s “Bail out the people, not the banks” protest on Wall Street, New York. Organisers replied saying, “People were really inspired by this solidarity.”

New supporters of the charter include the GMB union’s Holborn branch, PCS national executive member Hector Wesley, PCS branch secretary Chris Hurley and PCS regional secretary Tom Taylor.
